Changing teaching

Write, edit the author has a good clear his thoughts. There are no visible distortions in the language, facts, or logic. Writing and editing go hand in hand, even if the education of working children can be a challenge. Several factors may be the reason for the challenge - to correct an aversion to the work of others, the boredom of view of the "old story", or attention to detail required. However, a capacity that process can and should be controlled. L 'The following ideas helpful.

Define a simple process. You have your students with the following treatment, so you know exactly what. This approach can be used by students at different levels of learning. Change the size of "b" step as appropriate. For example, a student of second spelling, punctuation and capitalization work, and twelfth graders should show competence in all eight areas.

a. Read the workpiece.
b. Read asecond time and select carefully taken into account possible errors. Check the following:

1. Spelling
2. Punctuation
3. Market Cap
4. Grammar
5. Use the word repetition
6. Accuracy of the statements of fact
7. Flow and texture of the piece
Logic eighth

c. The search for possible error.
d. Select the error has confirmed with the proposed changes.
e. Where the correction needs evidence of a link.

The reference material. Please have the followingReferences to hand for inspection by students as the search for possible errors: a complete dictionary, a style manual, a seeker of synonyms dictionary and an atlas. There are a number of manuals of style and why his leadership is different, please specify which operate manually.

The English language is complex, and there are situations where more than one acceptable approach. One that immediately comes to mind the use of comma in a list and if it is put beforethe final "e". Some style manuals recommend a semicolon at this point that the last two points are distinct concepts, others do not believe that it is not necessary. Consistency is important in a particular piece.

authors of books usually use the Chicago Manual of Style. "journalists use the Associated Press Stylebook." In general, students use Strunk and White "The Elements of Style." There are a number of other guides available. It is worth noting that studentsdifferent style manuals of the various communities of writers for the event, some choose to be writers.

Internet access is useful. If available, you must indicate how to use spell check and grammar check functions. While not perfect, these features can help students discover mistakes and offer some possible solutions. prudent approach, although their use. These programs are not any errors (for example, when a valid word is used, but it is not the right word for the set) andIn some cases they can identify tag as a bug, when in fact they are not.

Choice of material for working practice. Find material of interest to your students for their review process is fun to practice more. Internet search of "working document" for the worksheets for printing. Review blog of celebrities or sports heroes, or animal lovers. Newspaper articles often provide good material for review (probably because you do not want to provide material processing, but because its staff is small and will no longer process). A common practice in many schools is to have the exchange of students and working properly. Students may feel uncomfortable references to the mistakes of their colleagues and therefore can not offer the best. Select material by authors who do not offer a personal friend wrote a less emotionally charged experience.

Techniques for teachers. Here there are different approaches to the teaching processhave worked for other teachers. Try one or more.
a. Write a sentence or a paragraph at the wrong overhead, or butcher-block paper. Tell students how many errors there. Give them until the end of the day or early the next morning to find them.
b. When correcting students 'work', put an arrow or dot on the left side of the set contains the error. Let the students discover what it was and how to correct the error. VotesStudents do the job a second time for review.
c. Write sentences or paragraphs from the work of former students on overheads. Do you work as a corrections class.
d. Post a chart of symbols correction in the classroom for easy reference by your students.
to check e-mail a checklist of terms for students. Alternatively, fill a paper with their name, the title of the exercises, and then select the check boxes as their complete review of spelling,Punctuation, capitalization, and so on.
f. Ask students to read the material aloud the words slowly doubled, to see misspelled words, missing words.
g. Ask students to check their work one day after she wrote it originally. They mark every error with a blue highlighter. If you want the final results, use a different color highlighters for errors that have lost their show.
h. Pair students to form teams of collaborative writing. They have one of theseExercises in team.

Control the flow and logic. Two students concepts are often separated with the flow and logic. Type of questions to help students with a list, analyze what they are reading. These questions will help to identify problem areas, whether it is text. The list might include:

Was a great idea contained in paragraph?
If the buyer of choice unpleasant thought or word cause transitions from one paragraph or sentenceanother?
If the piece is in chronological order, basic research, make mistakes?
The author has built, information about events and ideas from simple to more complex ideas?
The author has clearly explain why?
If you know something is not in the text, why is it so? Where did you start to lose the thread of the author's reasoning?
The author has followed the approach logical reasoning, "if this then that"? If so, the conclusion must follow, or is therealternative explanations or causes?

More information for students. Many students want the material quickly, instead of scanning tests. Spotting errors requires great attention to detail. Students will find a wealth of tips and techniques for editing in my article "Editing Your Writing."

verification of facts is a specific subset of skills in editing. For more information on how to do this, students can read "the fact check."

Like any skill, editorialmust be practiced. Providing students with many opportunities to change their critical thinking skills and improve their texts.
